Two Krasnoyarsk residents were convicted of stealing 900 thousand rubles from a pensioner

March 27 11:04

In Krasnoyarsk, a court sentenced two local residents for stealing 900 thousand rubles from a pensioner.

The press service of the regional prosecutor's office reported that in May 2025, two men – 38 years old and 25 years old – found an offer on the Internet to work as couriers. At the same time, it was necessary to maintain secrecy, introduce yourself to older people as employees of the Central Bank and law enforcement agencies, and immediately transfer the money received into cryptocurrency.

The men's first working day fell on May 16th. Then their fraudulent employers called the 73-year-old pensioner. The woman believed the legend that her savings were in danger and agreed to hand them over to “responsible officials.”

The couriers came for the money. The pensioner handed them 10 thousand US dollars in cash and another 1 thousand euros. After this, the men transferred the currency to a crypto wallet, leaving themselves 60 thousand rubles as salary.

“Even after their arrest, the would-be couriers only partially admitted their guilt: they claimed that they had no criminal intent and were not involved in the antics of an organized criminal group. The court, having studied the materials of the prosecutor’s office, did not agree with such a modest assessment of the events,” the supervisory agency said.

The court found the men guilty of fraud (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced them to 3 years in a general regime colony.

Also, according to the prosecutor's claim, the convicts are obliged to return the stolen money to the defrauded pensioner in full.
