On Friday, a Polish citizen and his company registered in Warsaw were subject to US sanctions against persons and entities that financially support Hezbollah – according to a statement from the US Ministry of Finance. Washington accuses him of involvement in money laundering for this pro-Iranian group.

As the US Ministry of Finance (Treasury) announced on its website on Friday, the sanctions covered 16 people and entities from Lebanon, Syria, Poland, Slovenia, Qatar and Canada. According to the ministry, they form a network headed by Alaa Hamieh, who is linked to Hezbollah and is a former Lebanese official. It was allegedly involved in economic projects, of which over $100 million was allocated to financing Hezbollah's activities.
According to U.S. authorities, Hamieh, as vice president of the Lebanese Development Investment Authority, diverted funds from a trade agreement with Iraq to rebuild Lebanon to enrich himself and Hezbollah.
Among those subject to sanctions is Hamieh's nephew, Daniel Hamieh (Hamiie), a Polish citizen. Both are members of the management board of Calllync sp. z o. o. registered in Warsaw, which, according to the US, sent hundreds of thousands of dollars to a company linked to the Hezbollah financing group.
The sanctions are imposed at a time when Hezbollah is firing on Israel in support of Iran, with which the militant group is affiliated.
“Iran is the head of the snake when it comes to global terrorism, and its partners, such as Hezbollah, carry out Tehran's mission of sowing chaos and destruction beyond its borders,” emphasized Finance Minister Scott Bessent, quoted in the statement.
“Hezbollah continues to use funds that rightfully belong to the Lebanese people to finance its terrorist operations. Today's action targets key actors in the global financial network who support its militant activities,” he added.
Hezbollah is considered a terrorist organization, among others. by the United States, Israel, Canada, Great Britain and Germany. The European Union recognized only the military source of the Lebanese group as an organization of this nature.
