In Krasnoyarsk, an IT specialist will stand trial for helping scammers withdraw money for cryptocurrency. The regional prosecutor's office reported this.
According to the supervisory authority, until 2023 the man led an ordinary life: he graduated from college, worked for providers, and rose to the rank of senior engineer. But one day, while looking for ways to earn extra money, I came across an advertisement on the Internet for renting SIM cards and decided to try my hand at this business. A Krasnoyarsk resident bought modems. SIM cards, set up a “farm” at home and started sending SMS to clients for cryptocurrency.
Over time, the business acquired significant proportions and momentum: the IT specialist bought professional SIM boxes and introduced automatic message forwarding in Telegram. However, the automation did not always work, so he began manually confirming bank transactions, helping scammers remove the blocking and withdraw money – for a fee.

The man moved the equipment to a utility room between floors, and convinced his wife that he was engaged in crypto trading. Thus, by April 2025, the Krasnoyarsk resident was part of several organized groups, providing their technical base.
“The scheme collapsed when law enforcement intervened. The man admitted guilt, helped return part of the crypto assets and is ready to compensate the victims. In total, the damage in the case amounted to 1 million rubles. That’s exactly how much was seized from the defendant’s accounts,” the department said.
The regional prosecutor's office approved the charge of fraud against the IT specialist (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Now he faces up to 10 years in prison. The criminal case will be considered by the Oktyabrsky District Court of Krasnoyarsk.
