Recently, the experts of the Technical Traffic Commission have given a favorable opinion so that some boulevards and streets in the center of the Capital of the Driver's Capital will reduce the speed at 30 km per hour. Among the arteries concerned are Calea Victoriei, Lascăr Catargiu Boulevard, Dacia Boulevard, Berzei street or Doamnei street.
The proposal to reduce the speed limit in the center was based on arguments such as increasing the safety in traffic of vulnerable categories, scooters, cyclists, prevention of accidents and limiting their consequences, reducing sound pollution and the large number of notifications at the Brigade on non -observance of the provisions of the road legislation.
Experts say that the measure is necessary even if, in Bucharest, there is a crowded traffic at certain hours of the day. However, the measure should impose drivers who love the speed greater responsibility or at least fear of sanctions.
The “Streets for People” Association that has taken steps for this regulation to become valid, also requested that the indications regarding the reduction of the speed of driving the vehicles are also inscribed on the asphalt.
The arguments behind the decision
The road police came with several arguments that were the basis for applying new speed limits on Calea Victoriei. According to them, the measure was necessary for several reasons.
Thus, the Road Brigade transmits the following arguments that have led to this new speed limit:
- increasing the safety of traffic participants, especially vulnerable categories represented by pedestrians and bicycle users/electric scooters;
- preventing road accidents and limiting their consequences;
- reduction of sound pollution;
- The number of notifications registered at the level of the Road Brigade regarding the non -observance of the provisions of the road legislation in force.
“We also point out that so far, the police officers of the Road Brigade have not applied contraventional sanctions for non -observance of the meaning of the indicators regulating the current speed limit.“, The Road Brigade added.
