VIDEO Gasoline for just one eurocent at a station in France. What did people do after they discovered the mistake

As prices explode at the pump because of the war in the Middle East, some French drivers took advantage of a huge discount on gas last week, La Libre reported Thursday.
As reported by several French publications, including Le Figaro, the gas station of a Carrefour hypermarket in the Essonne department south of Paris had an unpleasant incident on March 5, 2026. In part of the evening, a liter of gasoline was displayed at the price of €0.01.
The news spread very quickly and some people started arriving with canisters as well. A video posted on social media shows the videographer's astonishment when the meter at the pump actually only read 0.01 euro cents for every liter poured into the canisters.

The error was able to be corrected by the Carrefour store “quickly, during the evening”, says Le Figaro. The French newspaper also explains that the price error was caused by a typing error as fuel prices are entered manually every day by store employees.
Until the error was fixed, several drivers thus had time to fill up for less than one euro. But the situation could turn against them, if Carrefour decides to do so. Given that the error at the pump was obvious, the supermarket chain could ask customers to refund the difference.
However, according to Le Figaro, the company will not do so.
