Trump proclaims that “we won the war” with Iran: “It was all over in the first hour”

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that “we have won” the war with Iran, but that the United States “will stay in the fight to finish the job”, reports Reuters.

“You never want to say you've won too soon. We won,” Trump said at a campaign rally in Hebron, Kentucky.

“In the first hour, it was all over,” the White House leader continued.

He claimed that the United States had taken 58 Iranian naval vessels out of combat.

However, Trump had oscillating positions regarding Iran: on the one hand, he praised the US military for significantly weakening Iran's military capabilities, and on the other hand, he rejected the idea of a quick end to the conflict.

“We don't want to leave too early, do we?” Trump said. “We have to finish the job.”

He claimed that the United States had “virtually destroyed Iran,” suggesting that, for now, Washington would continue the fight.

“We don't want to come back here (to Iran, no) every two years,” Trump added.
