A Krasnoyarsk woman with Botox developed Quincke's edema after contact with lilies

In the Krasnoyarsk Regional Clinical Hospital told how they helped a woman with angioedema after contact with a lily.
The patient was admitted in serious condition with a diagnosis of angioedema and acute urticaria, which threatened suffocation. The team on duty immediately began intensive therapy and stabilized the patient’s condition.
Finding out the reasons, doctors found that the reaction developed after contact with a bouquet of lilies, although the woman had not previously had intolerance to flowers. A few days before, she received Botox injections – the procedures were also well tolerated.
“Botulinum toxin preparations and lily components can act as histamine liberators – substances that promote the release of histamine from mast cells. Individually, each of the factors may not have caused clinical manifestations, but their combination led to the summation of the effect and the development of acute angioedema,” explained allergist Olga Ishchenko.
The patient now feels well and is preparing for discharge. Doctors warn: after any injection procedures, the immune system may unexpectedly react to habitual irritants.
