Hayek moved to the United States from Mexico in the early 90s, when she was about 25 years old. As noted by The GuardianHayek was born into the family of a wealthy businessman and always dreamed of becoming an actress, but in order to please her parents, she first studied international relations.
Independent edition clarifies that her father was an oil tycoon, the family lived in the coastal city of Coatzacoalcos, and there were four maids in their house.
At the time of moving to the United States, Hayek had already starred in Mexican soap operas, but wanted more and was ready to start all over again in Hollywood – but in the “land where dreams come true,” actors from Mexico were then perceived “like poor relatives,” the article notes. And at first, the actress could only count on tiny roles of Mexican women in Hollywood projects.
The situation was aggravated by the fact that at first Hayek was in the United States as an illegal immigrant. The actress admitted this almost 20 years later, giving an interview to the Spanish print edition of V Magazine in 2010. Her words are still quoted by all media, including the New York Post.
According to the star, she was in this status for a short time, but this does not change the situation. The actress emphasized that “at the beginning of her career, she had to go through some of the worst times in terms of racial discrimination in Hollywood.” She added that American directors and producers would not even entertain the idea of having a Mexican woman play the lead role in their films.
Breastfed someone else's baby
In 2009, Hayek literally “undermined” all the world’s tabloids when, during a visit to Sierra Leone as a goodwill ambassador, in front of the cameras she breastfed someone else’s newborn child, who was crying from hunger.
As noted by ABC Newsthis caused a wave of outrage around the world. Doctors in Sierra Leone reportedly told Hayek that many mothers in that country stop breastfeeding within the first few months of having children due to pressure from their husbands.
Hayek said she decided to publicly breastfeed another woman's baby to support breastfeeding. At that time, the actress was still breastfeeding her one-year-old daughter.

Married to a Billionaire
In 2009, after three years of relationship, Hayek married French businessman and billionaire Franus-Henri Pinault. At that time they already had a two-year-old daughter.
