The National Debt Register (KRD) is a database that collects information on the debt of individuals and companies. The authors of the report point out that the number of consumer bankruptcies has stabilized after several years of significant increases. Last year, 21,266 people announced it, 79 more than in 2024. According to KRD data, 47 percent bankruptcies from the second half of 2025 were already in the register three years before the bankruptcy was announced.

The largest group of bankrupts entered into the KRD were Poles aged 36-45 – in this group, nearly 2,000 decided to take this step. people. They owe creditors PLN 80 million. 1,550 debtors aged 46-55 also decided to make a new start they left behind unpaid PLN 76 million. The third largest group are consumers aged 26-35 – just over 1.5 thousand. of them generated a total debt of PLN 50 million.
The report shows that the largest amount to be refunded (PLN 262 million) is due to companies from the financial sector (including banks, credit unions, loan companies, insurance companies and securitization funds).
The debtors also have unpaid bills to the state and local government administration amounting to almost PLN 18 million. This amount mainly includes alimony and fines and penalties imposed by the courts – these obligations are not discharged upon declaration of bankruptcy.
