Doctors at the Krasnoyarsk Regional Tuberculosis Dispensary use short treatment regimens for tuberculosis.

According to the press service of the regional Ministry of Health, doctors at the medical institution participated in a multicenter cohort study on tuberculosis treatment for 23 months from 2024 to 2025efor using a short (four month old) mode.

“The short regimen proved to be comparable in effectiveness to the six-month regimen. An effective treatment result was achieved in 92% (46/50) of patients. The overall incidence of adverse reactions was lower than in the comparison group (57.7% versus 74.6%). The data obtained in the study make it possible to make changes to clinical recommendations for the treatment of drug-sensitive tuberculosis and use lower doses of anti-tuberculosis drugs,” the regional Ministry of Health said.

Since the end of 2024, short treatment regimens have been used in the regional tuberculosis dispensary for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age with pulmonary tuberculosis. According to doctors, the four-month regimen is easier to implement, and also increases patient adherence to treatment and reduces the risk of side effects.

Experts remind that interruption of tuberculosis treatment leads to the development of multidrug-resistant disease. As a result, treatment becomes more difficult and takes much longer. Treatment for tuberculosis can last up to two years.

Early diagnosis and timely treatment allows you to recover from this disease without serious health consequences. Screening for tuberculosis should be done at least once a year.
