During Friday's conference, trade unionists commented on this year's proposal to increase teachers' salaries prepared by the Ministry of National Education.
Teachers' earnings. Sławomir Broniarz: the scale of this increase is symbolic
“It cannot be that the difference between subsequent levels of professional promotion in the case of an appointed teacher is only PLN 155.. This is not a factor that should motivate teachers to improve their qualifications,” emphasized Sławomir Broniarz, president of the Polish Teachers' Union.
He noted that the proposed raise is not approved by the teaching community. “The scale of this increase is symbolic,” he pointed out.
This is, among other things, what trade unionists are to discuss on February 17 at the Ministry of National Education at the meeting to agree on the draft regulation on the minimum rates of basic remuneration for teachers.
“It is officially called arrangements. It is a very formal meeting because decisions on this matter have been made. For many, many years, such meetings have not had any element of negotiation,” Broniarz noted.
In this context, he also referred to the education reform announced by the Ministry of National Education, “Reforma26. Kompas Jutra”.
“How can we teachers implement this idea with full force, knowing that the proposed salary increase is at the level of the inflation rate,” he said.
What about the citizens' project to amend the Teacher's Card?
Moreover, trade unionists once again pointed out that “nothing is happening” regarding the citizens' project to amend the Teacher's Charter, which assumes linking teachers' salaries with the average salary in the economy. The ZNP submitted it to the Sejm in November 2021. The first reading was carried out in February 2022. Then it was sent to the committee, where, however, no further work was carried out.
The new term of office members returned to the project and the first reading of the project was held again on January 25, 2024. This time, the education committee to which the project was addressed established an extraordinary subcommittee to deal with it. So far, three meetings have been held, during one of which the presidium was elected and the work schedule was discussed at the second. The last meeting of the subcommittee took place on March 6 last year. According to information on the Sejm website, no further sessions are planned for now.
