Kuraginsk hospital will pay a patient whose doctors did not notice developing cancer

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, at the request of the prosecutor's office, the Kuraginsky District Hospital compensates a woman for moral damages for poor-quality medical care.

The supervisory agency said that in 2023, a resident of the Karatuz district came to the hospital complaining of pain in the chest area. She was offered to undergo a mammogram, which showed that there were no pathologies.

Six months later, the woman noticed shortness of breath, and the mammary gland changed shape and size. She went for another mammogram, and the doctors again found no abnormalities. But the patient asked to be sent for additional examination to the regional oncology clinic. Only there she was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer, and later became disabled.

“Believing that the late detection of cancer was due to an incorrect description of the mammography images, the woman contacted the prosecutor’s office. The prosecutor initiated a trial, during which a medical examination was ordered. Experts confirmed: medical care was provided with defects, violations were made in the description of images, which directly affected the timeliness of cancer diagnosis and, consequently, the severity of the consequences for the patient’s health,” the press service noted.

The court found that the improper performance of duties by the medical organization caused the woman moral suffering. The hospital is obliged to pay her compensation for moral damage in the amount of 350 thousand rubles. The execution of the court decision is under the control of the prosecutor's office.
