The upward trend in bank results continued until the very end of the year – In December 2025 alone, the profit increased by nearly PLN 3.6 billion compared to the report from the end of November (PLN 45.1 billion).
The spectacular results are mainly due to high operational profitability:
- Interest income ohave reached the level PLN 175.4 billion. Despite gradual changes in monetary policy, banks successfully monetized their loan portfolios
- Interest costs haughty PLN 65.9 billionwhich shows a large disproportion between earnings on loans and the cost of maintaining deposits
- Commissions remained a stable source of income, providing the sector with over PLN 27 billion
Where do banks' profits come from?
Commercial banks' profits depend primarily on the difference between the interest rates they pay to depositors and the interest rates they charge borrowers, which allows them to generate an interest margin. Fees and commissions related to handling accounts, payment cards, transfers, investment and insurance services are also an important source of income.

Bank profits also depend on the quality of the loan portfolio – the fewer loans become bad, the greater the profitability of the institution. Additionally, banks earn money on their own investments, trading in securities and financial instruments, and factors such as the level of interest rates, the economic situation and legal regulations have a significant impact on the level of their profits.
