Socialist Party politician Antonio Jose Seguro decisively defeated the leader of the populist-right Chega party, Andre Ventura, in the second round of the presidential elections in Portugal organized on Sunday, according to an exit poll by the research center of the Portuguese Catholic University.

According to this study Seguro was voted for by 68 to 73 percent. voters, a for Ventura – from 27 to 32 percent.

Attendance amounted from 52 to 58 percent

Seguro will take over the presidential office from Social Democratic Party politician Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who has held the position since 2016.

The voting took place in difficult weather conditions due to the hurricane Marta over Portugal. There is traffic chaos throughout the country due to numerous floods.
