The Krasnoyarsk mayor's office recalled the history of the city's main clock. It turns out that the arrows on them were first made “golden”.
The Department of Urban Planning and Architecture said that the clock was originally on the city hall. The building itself was built according to the design of architect Areg Demirkhanov in 1976. The main clock was electronic and showed time and air temperature.
By 2001, the mechanism had fallen into disrepair and required either major repairs or replacement. As a result, the clock tower acquired a modern look, and a new clock was installed on it.
“The new watch complex, in a classic design based on the sketch of the famous architect, was created with the involvement of specialists from many enterprises. For example, dials and watch movements were developed by specialists from the Research and Production Association of Applied Mechanics “Development”. Teams from the JSC Scientific and Production Association of Applied Mechanics named after Academician M.F. Reshetnev were involved in the development and production. Each team had its own area of responsibility. The clock mechanism and electronics were manufactured in Zheleznogorsk. The remaining components of the clock complex in Krasnoyarsk,” the mayor’s office said.
Specialists needed to solve the problem of stable operation of the mechanism in extreme weather conditions – from −50 to +60 degrees. Until now, only individual components of the arrow position sensors had to be changed.

“The electronics of the watch are 99% made from domestic elements. The watch includes an acoustic system that reproduces a soundtrack from a sound synthesizer or computer located in the watch control unit. The clock can be monitored and controlled from a personal computer remote up to 500 m, which is connected to the control unit via a serial communication channel. The clock error is no more than 2 seconds per day. The weight of one dial with a drive is 1509 kg,” the press service said.
By the way, the hands on the clock were first “golden”. But soon after the system was launched, it turned out that in some positions the hour and minute hands merge, and at dusk the dial elements do not stand out against a black background. Therefore, some of the “decorations” of the hands were removed and all elements of the dial were repainted white.
