The toxicological analyzes carried out by IML Timişoara came out positive for two psychoactive substances, cannabis and cocaine, the spokesperson of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Lugoj Court announced on Thursday, quoted by the news. The driver had also consumed alcohol.

Seven people in the minibus, including the driver, died following the accident that took place on Tuesday on the E70, near the town of Lugojel, Timiș county. They were Greek nationals, supporters of the PAOK Thessaloniki team, and were on their way to Lyon where their favorite team had a Europa League match on Thursday night.

“In the case, a toxicological analysis bulletin was drawn up by IML Timişoara, to determine the presence of psychoactive substances in the blood, as regards the driver of the vehicle. Its result confirmed the presence in the blood of two psychoactive substances, namely cannabis and cocaine. The presence of alcohol was also confirmed”, said Bertha Serena Constantinescu, spokesperson of the Prosecutor's Office at the Lugoj District Court, Bertha Serena Constantinescu, quoted by news.ro.

At the scene of the accident, says the representative of the prosecutor's office, sachets with potentially psychoactive substances were found, but in this case the official test results have not arrived.

What the prosecutors say about the causes of the accident

Video footage captured by a dashboard camera in the tanker being overtaken by the minibus before the accident shows the moment of the tragedy. The minibus overtakes the tanker and tries to return to its lane, but eventually veers to the left and hits an oncoming truck head-on.

One of the three survivors of the minibus involved in the accident in Timiş said that during an overtaking attempt, the vehicle's assistance system locked the steering wheel, causing the driver to lose control of the minibus, according to Greek media.

Asked about this possibility, the spokesperson of the Public Prosecutor's Office attached to the Lugoj Court stated that the technical expertise regarding a possible locking of the steering wheel during overtaking has not been completed and it is too early for a conclusion.

What is the condition of the injured

Two of the three survivors of the accident were taken to Thessaloniki, by a medical plane belonging to the Greek Ministry of Health. One of them will be hospitalized and the other will go home.

The third injured person remained hospitalized in Timişoara, after he was operated on during the night.

The lifeless bodies of the 7 dead men are to be repatriated on Thursday as well, with a military plane.
