The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, told Antena 3 CNN on Wednesday night, that he discussed in Washington with US Secretary Marco Rubio about the future meeting between the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, and the leader of the White House, Donald Trump.
“Yes, we also discussed the meeting of the presidents and here we are lined up regarding the possibility of having it in the first quarter of the following year,” said Oana Ţoiu, quoted by News.ro.
Romania's foreign minister Oana Țoiu met in Washington with Secretary of Marco Rubio on Wednesday.
It is the first high level meeting with a Trump administration official after the annulment of the presidential elections of 2024, which was criticized by US Vice President JD Vance at the beginning of the year.
In the statements made in Bucharest, the head of Romania's diplomacy said that one of his visit to Washington is to prepare a visit from President Nicușor Dan to the White House.

President Nicușor Dan said in the middle of September that the visit to the United States, at the invitation of Donald Trump, “will take place without discussion, most likely at the beginning of next year.” However, the head of the Romanian state says he wants to go to the US with several proposals for an “economic collaboration”.
“As you know, I had a telephone conversation with Mr. Trump as soon as I was invested in the position and in that conversation, he invited me to the United States, on an official visit. This visit will take place without discussion, most likely at the beginning of next year,” said President Nicușor Dan to Antena 3 CNN.
“More important than a visit is the content of this visit. Romania has at this moment two big goals that are important with the relationship with the US. One is the Security, the other economy. When this visit will take place, I want to be sure that Romania will go on the one hand with all the proposals that are in the security, but with the American military, This visit is to strengthen trade and support American companies in Romania and Romanian ones in the states, ”he said.
At the same time, in an interview with Euronews, asked when his visit will take place in the US, Nicuşor Dan replied: “It will most likely be in the first quarter of 2026.”
