The High Court of Cassation and Justice on Wednesday rejected the appeal in cassation of Sorina Pintea, former Minister of Health, who will thus remain with the sentence of 3 years and 6 months in prison that was dictated by the Cluj Court of Appeal, reports Agerpres.

Sentenced to prison for bribery, Pintea was incarcerated in Gherla Penitentiary in June 2025.

She was sent to court in April 2020, in a file in which acts of corruption committed during the period when she was manager of the Emergency County Hospital “Dr. Constantin Opriș” in Baia Mare were investigated.

The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) accused Sorina Pintea that, between November 2019 and February 28, 2020, she claimed and received, through an intermediary, from the representatives of a commercial company, in two installments, the sums of 10,000 euros and 120,000 lei.

The money represented a percentage of 7% of the value of a public procurement contract whose object was “the design and execution of works to fit out the operating room-cardiovascular and thoracic surgery room and adjacent spaces in the “Dr. Constantin Opriș” Baia Mare County Emergency Hospital”, concluded in 2019 by the hospital unit with the commercial company.

The prosecutors caught her when she was receiving the amount of 120,000 lei in the office in February 2020.

The initial sentence of 3 years and 6 months was given on April 26, 2024 by the Cluj Court. Sorina Pintea's lawyers appealed the decision, and the appeal was rejected on June 6, 2025.
