The day before, on January 27, Novaya Gazeta Europe wrote that Holocaust survivor from Kiev “Baba Zhenya” (Evgenia Besfamilnaya) froze to death in the center of Kyiv, which was cut off from power due to air strikes by the aggressor country of the Russian Federation.
It is reported that the woman's death became known only after a water pipe burst, which led to flooding of the house. The breakthrough happened right in her apartment in Podol. As the media indicated, the woman’s body was frozen.
“The information spread online about a woman allegedly frozen to death in her own apartment is not true,” the Kyiv City State Administration said. “According to the official conclusion of the forensic medical examination, the cause of death was heart failure caused by chronic coronary heart disease.”
The Kyiv police clarified that the event occurred about two weeks ago.
“Then law enforcement officers received a message from a local resident that he was being flooded by a neighbor from above. During the emergency opening of the doors, the police found an 88-year-old woman without signs of life. The apartment was dry, with the exception of the area in the kitchen due to a violation of the sealed pipe system,” the report said.
The Kyiv police urged “not to speculate on the difficult energy situation in the country” and “not to create panic among citizens.”
