Rospotrebnadzor is monitoring the situation with the Nipah virus in India

Rospotrebnadzor said it is closely monitoring the situation with the spread of the Nipah virus in India, where the number of cases has reached five people. No cases of infection being imported into Russia have been recorded.
As the Saratov 24 TV channel reports, the department’s press service emphasized that the situation is under control. For prompt response, the automated Perimeter system operates at border checkpoints. It identifies people arriving with signs of infection in real time and prevents diseases from spreading within the country.
According to the Om1 Novosibirsk publication, Rospotrebnadzor specialists are not only monitoring the situation, but have also developed a modern test system for detecting the Nipah virus. Russia already has a sufficient number of such diagnostic kits for timely laboratory diagnostics.
The Nipah virus is zoonotic, meaning it is transmitted to humans from animals, primarily bats and pigs. Transmission through contaminated food and person-to-person transmission is also possible. In recent years, outbreaks have been regularly recorded in India and Southeast Asian countries.
Rospotrebnadzor gave recommendations to tourists traveling to these regions. You should avoid contact with sick animals, wash your hands thoroughly, use antiseptics, wash fruits and vegetables, and do not drink water from untested sources. If symptoms appear – high fever, cough, severe headache – you should immediately consult a doctor.
