“Our economy is currently doing significantly better than in most euro zone countries,” noted the minister. “We have more and more data, research and arguments in favor of maintaining the Polish zloty,” he added.

According to a representative of the Polish government, the country's good economic results justify keeping the national currency for now.

The Financial Times recalled that Prime Minister Donald Tusk has changed his approach to Poland's adoption of the euro over the years. Since his camp won the parliamentary elections in 2023, the zloty has strengthened against the euro, and polls show that the majority of Poles are against changing the currency, noted the British daily.

Public opinion is in favor of the zloty, but the main reasons why we are not currently working on adopting the euro are economic in nature and do not concern Polish politics“- emphasized Domański.

As he noted, Poland is currently one of the most dynamically developing economies in the EU, so he sees “no significant reason to give up our own currency.”

There are currently 21 countries in the eurozone; the last one to join the zone at the beginning of this year. Bulgaria, which became a member of the EU in 2007, three years after Poland joined the Community. EU countries are obliged to adopt the euro after meeting the convergence criteria, including: stability of prices, public finances and exchange rates. (PAP)
