The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, described the increases in excise duties on fuels, energy and gas as measures by which “the hand of the state reaches the pocket of every Romanian”.

On Saturday, on Antena 3, the official said that he would propose the reduction of these excises “as soon as we have a better situation of the budget deficit” and claimed that he opposed the increases from January 1.

“In the case of fuels, it's very simple, you can reduce the excise duty by 30-40 money at any time. As you have grown, you can reduce it (…). Once the budget figures look better, we are obliged to do this, because the moment we talk about increased excise duties on energy, gas, fuels, the hand of the state reaches the pocket of every Romanian”, declared Bogdan Ivan.

He said that “the 60% share in the increase in inflation from 2025 was due to the elimination of the energy price cap, which was automatically reflected in every product and service that Romanians consumed.”

The minister urged citizens to submit the index monthly, so that they do not experience a possible “psychological shock” upon regularization.

“I ask people to look very clearly, read the monthly meter and send that index, so that they don't have a bill of 50 lei, 70, 100 lei, for three months, during the winter period and with very high consumption, and after that the regularization comes every three months with 400-500 lei. It's obvious that it's a psychological shock when you get a bill of 500 lei for electricity.” Minister Bogdan Ivan also stated.
