A woman died after being hit by a forklift, in the yard of a warehouse of construction materials in the municipality of Arad. The machine was driven by a man under the influence of alcohol, who was detained by the police for 24 hours.

According to the Arad County Police Inspectorate, the incident occurred on Friday, January 23, 2026, around 12:30 p.m. The police were informed about an accident that happened in the yard of a warehouse of building materials in the municipality.
“On January 23, 2026, at around 12:30, the Arad police were alerted to an incident at a construction materials warehouse in the municipality. From the investigations, it emerged that a 49-year-old man from Arad, while driving a forklift in the inner yard of a construction materials warehouse, allegedly hit a woman who was walking through the yard“, IPJ Arad transmitted, according to News.ro. The woman died from her injuries.
The driver was under the influence of alcohol
The police stated that the man driving the machine was tested with the breathalyzer. “The driver of the machine was tested with the devices provided, resulting in an alcohol imbibition of 0.30 mg/l of pure alcohol in the exhaled air. He was taken to a medical facility, for collecting biological samples“, the IPJ Arad representatives also sent.
Criminal case for manslaughter
In this case, a criminal case was opened for manslaughter. Following the administered evidence, the 49-year-old man was detained for 24 hours, and the investigation will establish all the circumstances in which the tragedy occurred.
