Ukraine started meddling hard in Hungary's elections because it wants a government that will say yes to Brussels regarding the war, but the Hungarian government will continue to protect its country and people and will not allow Hungary to be dragged into war, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Friday in reaction to a post by his Ukrainian counterpart on X, MTI reports, according to Agerpres.
According to a statement from the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, the head of Ukrainian diplomacy, Andrii Sîbiga, reacted to remarks made by Prime Minister Viktor Orban the previous day, according to which “there will not be a parliament in Hungary in the next 100 years that will vote in favor of Ukraine joining the European Union.”
“This plan is doomed to failure, Mr. Prime Minister” – Sîbiga wrote. “Your master in Moscow will not last 100 years, even if you were ready to donate all his organs. And on the day Ukraine joins the EU, we will broadcast this headline in the @ua_parliament to remind us of your lies for the next 100 years.”
Szijjarto stated in his response that the Ukrainians have clearly started interfering in the Hungarian elections. “The Ukrainians have clearly changed direction and started interfering very harshly and directly in the Hungarian election campaign. Yesterday, the President (Ukrainian Volodymyr) Zelenski (…) had nothing more important to do in Davos than to criticize the Hungarian Prime Minister in a vulgar, personal style, and today his Foreign Minister continued in the same vein,” noted the head of Hungarian diplomacy.
“Obviously, they would like to see a government formed after April 12 that would say yes to Brussels about the war and allow Brussels to push Hungary into war and allow the Ukrainians to push Hungary into war,” Szijjarto pointed out.
“Ukrainians know very well that as long as there is a sovereign national government in Hungary, as long as Viktor Orban is prime minister, we will protect Hungary and the Hungarian people from war, we will not allow the Ukrainians to drag us into war, we will not allow Brussels to push us into war, and we will not allow the money of the Hungarian people to be sent to Ukraine,” he insisted.
“We strongly urge the Ukrainians to stop meddling in the Hungarian election campaign,” demanded the foreign minister from Budapest, according to whom Kiev would like “to see (Hungarian opposition group) Tisza in government, but not they, the Ukrainians, but the Hungarian people will decide this, and the Hungarian people have the opportunity to continue to choose security, to continue to choose a government that makes decisions sovereignly, who will protect Hungary from war and say no to Brussels and Kiev”.
