As the investigation showed, during the repair of the Town Hall, violations of the rules for storage and handling of artistic values were committed – 46 paintings were stored in the City Hall in the city of Uden. At the same time, some work was completely in mobile garbage containers. Investigators came to the conclusion that the lack of clear storage instructions and led to the fact that valuable items were thrown out with garbage.
The police emphasized that the town hall, having discovered the disappearance of the paintings, did not take sufficient measures to search for them. The report also emphasizes that people responsible for storing work did not have instructions for registration, storage, preservation and ensuring the safety of artistic objects.
According to the head of the municipality Hans van der Pas, they regret what happened. The official admitted that in this way it was impossible to store works of art.
