Venice restores fees for admission to the city. This is the only such system in the world

For 60 days next year in Venice, tourists will be required to pay a fee for admission to the city in the case of one -day visits, without accommodation – the local authorities decided on Wednesday. This system, the only one in the world, will enter into force for the third year in a row at the beginning of April.


The fee has not yet been given. This year it was 5 or 10 euros depending on whether registration was made just before arrival or more in advance; In the latter case, the fee was lower.
The city board has announced the calendar of the requirement to register the arrival and fee, which It will be taken from tourists staying there from 8.30 to 16.
The system will enter into force on April 3, 2026, before Easter, and will apply until the end of the holiday period on April 6, and then on the next weekends this month and May.
In June it will be days from 1 to 7, and then on all weekends, also in July. This phase will end on Sunday, July 26.
The authorities introduced a system of registration of visits and fees was introduced in connection with – as explained – the need to properly manage the influx of tourists in peak periods.
The requirement of the fee does not apply to guests of hotels and other official accommodation structures, because they charge a special tourist tax in the amount of several euros per night.
