Paid parking in smaller cities also on weekends. MPs decided, officials rub their hands

Until now, the city's parish parking zones have only been established by city authorities with at least 100,000. residents. According to the current state, there are 37 of them throughout Poland. Soon all others will be able to join them.

This is the effect of modifying one of the provisions of the Public Roads Act, which after amending by the Sejm says that the “downtown of paid parking zone is set in the areas of the intensive buildings of the Śródmieście functional building, which is the actual center of the city center or district […]”.

Therefore, a record limiting the introduction of this type of zone only in cities with at least 100,000 has been removed. residents. In addition, such zones will be able to arise in spa communes.

Paid parking even around the clock, 7 days a week

However, this is not only a cosmetic change and related to the naming of individual zones. First of all, the fees in the downtown zones are much higher than in the others. Secondly and probably the most important, fees in the downtown paid parking zones can be charged every day of the week, i.e. also on weekends and holidays, which in turn is impossible in traditional paid parking zones-the only ones that could have been established so far by cities less than 100,000.

The amended act still has to obtain the president's signature. This does not mean, however, that the downtown zones will come into force right away. Their adoption will remain the responsibility of individual local governments. However, it is difficult to imagine a situation in which officials would not reach into the pockets of drivers.

This happened a few years ago, when MPs increased the maximum rates, which local governments can download for parking in city parking lots.

Parking lots are getting more expensive

The last months have brought further increases in subsequent cities. In turn, in the coming weeks and months, residents of subsequent cities will have to reach their wallets. As we wrote recently, Poznań, Łódź and Szczecin – this is another of the largest Polish cities where parking will be more expensive.

As a result, in the most expensive downtown zones located in the largest Polish cities, you will have to pay up to PLN 8 for leaving the car per hour, and for a three -hour stop nearly PLN 30.
