The average global number of attacks on the government sector is currently 2,713 per week, which means that Polish institutions are attacked by almost 15 percent. more often than the world average.
Poland targeted by cybercriminals
Wojciech Głażewski, director of the Polish branch of Check Point Software Technologies, points out that as recently as October 2025, 2,500 attacks per week were considered a serious threat. However, now a new record has been set.
Głażewski emphasizes that in the current geopolitical reality, cyberattacks are no longer just a technical problem, but are part of a broader strategy to destabilize the state and weaken its resilience. In his opinion, Poland, due to its geopolitical importance and active participation in Ukraine's support policy, has become one of the main targets of hostile cyber and disinformation activities.
In recent weeks, the average number of attacks on Polish government institutions was 1,900 per week. In Europe, we were only ahead of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, where the number of attacks reached 2,200 and 2,097, respectively.

However, in the latest ranking, Poland took the lead – in one week there were 3,188 attempted attacks, while in the Czech Republic there were 2,222 of them. For comparison, Germany repels 1,369 attacks a week, and Hungary has a similar level of threat as Poland.
Russian sabotages and threats to infrastructure
The scale of the threat was recently discussed by the Minister of Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Gawkowski. In an interview with RMF FM, he admitted that in December, the most serious attack on energy infrastructure took place, the aim of which was to cut off electricity to citizens.
The minister stated that we were dealing with sabotage on the Russian side, and Poland was close to a blackout. He also noted that everything points to Russian sabotage aimed at destabilizing the situation in the country, but state institutions are well prepared and there is no reason to panic.

The attack targeted thermal power plants and many individual renewable sources. Importantly, according to the Check Point Research report, the number of attacks on government institutions was twice as high as on the financial sector (1,688 attacks) or the energy and utilities sector (1,449 attacks).
