Nine babies died in a maternity hospital in Novokuznetsk

Nine babies died in Novokuznetsk maternity hospital No. 1 on the New Year holidays, TASS writes, citing a source familiar with the situation. The corresponding information today, January 13, was confirmed by the Minister of Health of the Kemerovo Region, Andrey Tarasov, during a live broadcast on social networks.

“The situation happened. The investigation is currently underway. A commission from the Ministry of Health visited to assess and prevent the situation. Once the inspection is completed, we will provide official information,” the minister said.

In the maternity hospital where the tragedy occurred, hospitalization of patients was suspended. On the website of the Novokuznetsk City Clinical Hospital No. 1 named after Gennady Kurbatov, to which the institution belongs, an announcement was published about the implementation of quarantine measures “due to exceeding the threshold for the incidence of respiratory infection in the obstetric hospital.”

Law enforcement officers became involved in the situation, and the prosecutor’s office and the Investigative Committee began an investigation. A criminal case has been initiated under Part 3 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence) and Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence).
