Donald Trump on Venezuela. The US plans long-term surveillance and reconstruction of the country


In an interview on Wednesday evening, Trump referred to the plan of action announced by Secretary of State Marc Rubia after the overthrow of Nicolas Maduro by US forces on January 3. The plan, as presented by the US administration, assumes stabilizing Venezuela, rebuilding the economy and carrying out democratic reforms.

The president emphasized that Venezuela's interim government, which includes former Maduro associates, “it gives us everything we think we need.” Trump also recalled the nationalization of US oil investments in the past. “Don't forget they took our oil years ago.” – he said.

When asked about the duration of US surveillance over Venezuela, Trump avoided precise answers, saying that “only time will tell.” When asked if it was months or a year, he said: “I would say much longer.” The president emphasized that the reconstruction of the country will be a profitable process. “We will use oil and we will extract it. We will lower oil prices and we will give Venezuela the money it desperately needs.” – he emphasized.
Trump did not answer questions about recognizing Delca Rodriguez, former vice president of Venezuela, as the new leader of that country. He did not explain why he did not support Maria Corina Machado, the Nobel Peace Prize winner, or Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, the opposition presidential candidate. However, he admitted that Secretary of State Rubio maintains constant contact with Rodriguez.

Success of the American military operation
During the interview, Trump spoke proudly of the success of the military operation that led to the capture of Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. He admitted that he personally followed the training of forces at a military base in Kentucky, where a replica of the complex that was the target of the attack was created. The president expressed concerns that the operation could have ended in failure, recalling the failed operation to rescue hostages from the US embassy in Iran in 1980.

Trump said the US is already benefiting from Venezuelan oil subject to sanctions.
