Due to frost and heavy snowfall, the Dutch airline KLM canceled on Tuesday 600 connections scheduled for Wednesday from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. AFP reminds that thousands of flights from Schipol, one of the largest air hubs in Europe, have been canceled since Friday.

About 400 flights were canceled in advance on Tuesday – mainly on European routes, but also some intercontinental connections. KLM, the Dutch arm of the Air France-KLM group, is the main operator of Schipol, AFP reports.

The Air France-KLM group said on Tuesday evening that its reserves of aircraft deicing chemicals were virtually depleted.

KLM spokeswoman Anoesjka Aspeslagh told reporters her company had not experienced such weather-related problems for years and KLM was offering alternative connections to passengers where possible.

Meteorologists announce that frost and snowfall may persist in the Netherlands at least until Wednesday. The authorities appeal to work remotely whenever possible and carefully check information about flights and train connections before traveling. (PAP)
