Several people protested spontaneously, on Tuesday, in the yard of the County Emergency Hospital (SJU) in Buzau, after a 25-year-old patient, hospitalized with a closed fracture of the femur, died in the orthopedic department of the medical unit, announced the County Inspectorate of Gendarmerie (IJJ) Buzau, according to Agerpres.

The patient would have been operated on on Monday, January 5, but the medical staff claims that his health suddenly deteriorated, resulting in death.

The causes of the young man's death will be established following the necropsy, which is scheduled for Wednesday, and the Buzău County Police Inspectorate (IPJ) has also been notified.

For transparency, a forensic expert from IPJ Buzău will assist the procedure, announced the manager of SJU Buzău, Sorin Pătrașcu.

“We expressly requested that a forensic expert from the IPJ be present at the necropsy, for transparency. This request was accepted, so that everything that this part of transparency means in what happened, as a medical record, or did not happen, is brought to the attention of the family through the necropsy report,” said the manager of SJU Buzău.

He mentioned that an expert from the relatives can also take part in the autopsy, this aspect to be determined by the family.

According to the spokeswoman of SJU Buzău, Adriana Bunilă, the man who died was the victim of a road accident that took place on January 2, the patient being brought to the Emergency Department (UPU) with a closed fracture of the femur. After being evaluated in the UPU, the patient was admitted to the orthopedic department of the County Hospital to undergo surgery, benefiting from immobilization in a plaster cast and specific treatment.

“During January 5, 2026, the patient was supposed to undergo surgery, but his health suddenly deteriorated, which is why the patient was transferred to the intensive care unit, where, unfortunately, death occurred. We are currently waiting for the results of the necropsy to establish the exact causes of death,” said the spokeswoman of SJU Buzău.

She added that such cases “have been and are being treated” at the hospital and that a closed femur fracture is not “an immediate medical emergency”.
