The former candidate in last year's presidential elections Călin Georgescu sent a message on Thursday evening on the occasion of the Christmas celebration, in which he quotes from Petru Rareș, who was twice ruler of Moldova.

“In these days of celebration of the Birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, let us raise the wonderful carol of the national rebirth”, Călin Georgescu begins his message.

He asks the Romanians to have “faith” and to be aware of “the virtues of our ancestors, in order to elevate them to the pantheon of immortality”.

“In our ancestors lies the Truth! We must remember our glorious times, in order to be reborn in glory. “We will be again what we were and more than that”, said ruler Petru Rareș. For those who will come after us, let them know that our homeland does not mean only a piece of land that can be sold or negotiated, but also means heaven that we can reach only if we sacrifice for it”, added the former candidate, in the message published on his page Facebook.

Petru Rareș was lord of Moldavia twice, the first time between January 20, 1527 and September 18, 1538, and the second time between February 19, 1541 and September 3, 1546.

Călin Georgescu remains under judicial control after the Bucharest Court rejected, on December 17, as unfounded the appeal filed by the lawyers of the former presidential candidate. The decision of the magistrates is final.

The same judge who extended the judicial review for 60 days, Alexandru Bărbulescu, ordered the start of the trial on the merits of the case in which Georgescu is charged with legionary propaganda.

Călin Georgescu was sent to court on July 2 by the General Prosecutor's Office, being accused of promoting in public the cult of persons guilty of crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, as well as of promoting in public fascist, legionary, racist or xenophobic ideas, conceptions or doctrines, in a continuous form (five material acts).

Along with the former candidate for the presidential elections of 2024 and 20 other people, the General Prosecutor's Office also sent Horatiu Potra to court, in a file regarding the commission of actions against the constitutional order.

The mercenary leader, his son and grandson are behind bars for another 30 days after their pleas for a lighter sentence were rejected by the Supreme Court on December 24.

Horațiu Potra was arrested on September 24 at Dubai airport, together with his son and grandson, just before boarding a flight to Moscow. The leader of the mercenaries was brought into the country two months later.
