The administrators of the Sinaia ski area are facing problems at the beginning of the year, due to the very low temperatures that were recorded at 2000 meters altitude, in Bucegi. On Thursday, the first day of the year, they announced that, after temperatures of minus 25 degrees Celsius were recorded during the night, on Thursday morning the snow plows could not start, and up on the mountain there are problems related to the operation of the sanitary units.

Minus 25 degrees were recorded on New Year's Eve in Valea Soarelui from Bucegi, where the slopes of the Sinaia mountain resort are located, writes News.ro. Under these conditions, on the first day of the year, the snow plows could not start, only after they were connected to the generator.

“All pipes and valves frozen. Water tanks the same. Circuits on the poles, the same,” announced the administrators of the ski area. The Sinaia Gondola started, on the first day of 2026, one hour late, most likely also due to errors generated by the extremely low temperatures.

“It's not an excuse, it's a reality. There are installations, with dozens of sensors that freeze, leak, modules that burn, circuits that fail. We're sorry that it happened just today and we apologize for the discomfort created,” the slopes administrators emphasized.

They announce that, due to the pipes that froze in the ground, there were problems including with the operation of the sanitary units on the mountain, in the area of the ski area where, although the air heaters were left to work overnight, the water froze.

“On a different note, once again, sorry for the discomfort created on the first day of the year. A better year, infinitely better than this morning!”, the administrators of the ski area of the resort sent, announcing the half-hour extension of the operation of the cable transport facilities.
