Medicover launches a program for the training of nurses, in a country with a deficit as large as the population of a city like Tecuci

Medicover launched a program dedicated to the training of future nurses, in partnership with several post-secondary health schools in the country. Through the Hearts in Training initiative, students have access to internships in Medicover clinics and hospitals, mentorship from network professionals and job opportunities after graduation. The program comes at a time when the need for well-trained personnel is increasingly visible in the Romanian medical system.

Professional organizations estimate that Romania needs at least 30,000 more nurses to reach the level of coverage existing in other European states. The EU average is 8–9 nurses per thousand inhabitants, while Romania is around 5 nurses for the same sample. The difference reflects the essential role that this profession has in the functioning of the medical system and confirms the need to support the training of new generations.

Nurses are essential to the functioning of any modern healthcare system. They are the ones who ensure continuity of care, are with the patient in the most sensitive moments and connect all stages of the medical act. It is essential, as a country and as a public and private sector, to invest in the training of these specialists and provide them with an environment in which they can build a solid career“, he declares Dr. Florinela Cîrstina, Director General of Medicover Romania.

The program is aimed at students studying in an educational institution with a practice agreement signed with Medicover. Currently, the “St. Ioan” Post-secondary Health School, the “St. Vasile cel Mare” Post-secondary Health School, the “Spiru Haret” Post-secondary Health School from Bucharest, as well as the students of the “General Nursing” specialization from the Faculty of Medicine of the “Titu Maiorescu” University are part of the program. The list is expanding as new practice agreements are signed.

Within the program, students have access to modern clinics and hospitals, up-to-date equipment and a flexible schedule, adapted to the school schedule. Mentoring is provided by Medicover professionals. Exposure to multiple medical specialties helps students identify their area of best fit, and at the end of the internship there is the possibility of employment, depending on performance and compatibility.

The program is structured taking into account the practical curriculum specific to each year of study. First-year students practice in Medicover clinics in Bucharest (The Bridge, Pipera, Victoriei and West Gate), and second- and third-year students in Medicover hospitals, including Medicover Maternity and Medicover Pipera Hospital. Activities are carried out throughout the year according to learning stages.

Through this program, Medicover takes an active role in strengthening the profession, offering young people a predictable framework for development and contributing to the reduction of staff shortages through training, mentoring and access to a modern work environment.
