An epidemiological investigation is ongoing.

Three of the old people removed from the private house in Cenad where they were kept in degrading conditions, after being transferred from the home in Lenauheim, are now at the Victor Babeş Infectious Diseases Hospital in Timisoara, where they are receiving specialized treatment, after being diagnosed with scabies.

Eight other elderly people from the same place were admitted to the Dermatology Clinic of the Timişoara Municipal Hospital, also presenting symptoms and signs specific to scabies. Patients are medically evaluated to determine the treatment.

The Directorate of Public Health Timiş requested that all the centers where the elderly from Cenad were relocated take the necessary measures to stop the spread of scabies in them as well, the situation being monitored by the medical staff.

We remind you that, a few days ago, 74 elderly people were found in miserable conditions, in a private house, after the asylum in Lenauheim where they were hospitalized was closed.

The owner of the home was summoned to urgently solve the problems found by the authorities, but she decided, without asking the consent of the relatives, to move the elderly to a house in the Cenad commune. There they were found by DGASPC inspectors in rooms with windows covered with tinfoil, sleeping on mattresses, on the floor, and cared for by several foreign citizens without any qualification in the field.

According to the Timiș County Police Inspectorate, then the ambulance was called to the scene “for assessment of people's health status and providing specialized medical care“, and the representatives of DGASPC Timiș are going to relocate them.

The first checks showed that all the elderly were registered at a nursing home in Lenauheim.

How the elderly came to be moved

Judicial sources told Agerpres that, “since at the Lenauheim home the necessary measures were not taken for the proper accommodation of the elderly, the director of the center would have moved some of them to a house in Cenad, without fulfilling the legal forms”.

The case was taken over by the police officers of the Timiș Criminal Investigation Service. They have drawn up a criminal case for “unlawful exercise of a profession or activity” and continue the investigations, under the coordination of the prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Sânnicolau Mare Court, to establish exactly how this situation was reached

On December 12, 2025, the files were taken under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Timiş Court, which brought them together. Prosecutors are investigating for illegal deprivation of liberty, unlawful exercise of a profession or activity, manslaughter and abusive behavior.
