“For years, all kinds of criminal convicts or controversial people have been promoted in some of the most popular and watched TV shows, and this continues,” journalist Emilia Șercan reacted on Tuesday, after the Antena 1 television station announced the list of stars who will participate in the “Survivor” show. She criticizes the “dilution of benchmarks” by Romanian televisions and says that “justice also gave a helping hand”.

On the list of participants in the show, published by Antena 1 and cited by Pagina de Media, there are names such as former politician Cristian Boureanu and businessman Călin Donca.

“Survivor from Antena 1, one of the most watched entertainment shows, this edition has as guests a politician and a businessman with criminal problems, but also a football player arrested for drunk driving. When such characters are transformed into celebrities, the message sent to the public is that notoriety can make anyone popular,” wrote Emilia Șercan, in a message published on her Facebook page.

What the PressOne journalist says:

  • For years, mainstream and news television has helped dilute benchmarks, invert values, and set other standards for tolerable or normal.
  • Of course, a helping hand was also given by the judiciary, which got rid of all the corrupt people in politics and business.

“Another important contribution was also made by the political class. Currently, in the Government of Romania we have a criminal convict – Marian Neacșu, from the PSD,” noted Emilia Șercan, at the end of her post.

Who are the Survivor contestants?

On the list published by Antena 1 for the Survivor show, which will be broadcast from January, there is Aris Eram, the son of Andrea Esca, who also collaborates with the television show “Neața, cu Răzvan și Dani”, handball player Patricia Vizitiu or former TV assistant Marina Dina.

But the surprise names on the list are two businessmen with criminal problems: Boureanu and Donca.

Former politician Cristian Boureanu was accused, in May 2008, by DNA, in the “National Lottery” case, of abuse of office.

Nine years later, on June 10, 2017, Boureanu was remanded in custody for 30 days on charges of contempt, after he attacked a police officer who asked him to identify himself, during a routine traffic control. Two years later, on May 9, 2019, the Court of Appeal of Bucharest definitively sentenced Cristian Boureanu to one year and nine months of suspended prison in this case.

In the same year, on November 15, 2019, DNA prosecutors sent Cristian Boureanu to court for the crime of influence peddling. He escaped the trial in May 2023, after the High Court of Cassation and Justice definitively terminated the trial against him as a result of the intervention of the limitation of criminal liability.

Another competitor with legal problems is the businessman Călin Donca. According to Digi24, in September 2023, the millionaire from Brașov was arrested, being accused by prosecutors of fraud with cryptocurrencies, the creation of an organized criminal group and tax evasion. He was in custody for three months, and later, under house arrest. And this measure was then replaced by that of judicial control.

Former footballer Gabriel Tamaș, who also had problems with the law, is also on the list of competitors. Tamaș was sentenced to 8 months of suspended prison in 2014, for an incident in 2013, when he broke the door of an apartment block in Bucharest and disturbed public order.
