The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday, December 9, that an AN-22 military transport plane crashed in the Ivanovo region, located about 200 kilometers northeast of Moscow.

According to the ministry's statement, the incident occurred during a test flight after repair work, and the aircraft fell in an uninhabited area. Russian media cite sources that say the plane ended up in the waters of a nearby reservoir.

A rescue team was mobilized on the spot, to check if there are any survivors. An anonymous source from the emergency services stated for the TASS agency that there were seven people on board, and the information appeared on the Russian Telegram channels that all seven people died, Agerpres notes.

Until this moment, the Russian authorities have not provided official information about the fate of the crew, nor have they specified whether the incident has anything to do with the war in Ukraine.
