The French agency AFP reported on Monday, citing a source, that the US is pressuring Ukraine to more quickly adopt a plan to end the war. Territorial issues remain the most difficult in the negotiations, added the source, whom AFP describes as a senior source close to the matter.

A source with knowledge of recent U.S.-Ukrainian negotiations said Washington is pressuring Kiev to adopt a plan to end the war sooner. – The Americans are putting pressure like “faster, faster, faster”, but the Ukrainian side “cannot agree without examining all the details,” the source added.

It emphasized that Russia is trying to find every way to make Ukraine lose Donbas and wants Ukrainian forces to withdraw from those areas that Ukrainians still control.

The AFP interlocutor spoke before Monday's talks in London between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Kiev's European allies.

The US and Ukrainian delegations have been conducting negotiations in Miami, Florida in recent days on the peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump.

The problem is still the matter of territory

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with Bloomberg on Monday that there are “visions of the US, Russia and Ukraine” on how to solve territorial problems as part of a future peace agreement, and there is no unified position on Donbas so far.

Zelensky, who spoke to the agency by telephone, added that Ukraine is pushing to conclude a separate agreement on security guarantees with Western allies, primarily the United States.

“There is one question that I – and all Ukrainians – want answered: what will our partners do if Russia goes to war again?” – Zelensky said.

On Sunday, US President Donald Trump said he was disappointed because – as he said – the Ukrainian leader had not yet read the proposed peace plan. According to Trump, Russia agrees to the developed proposal.

The Ukrainian leader spoke to Bloomberg on his way to London, where he is scheduled to meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday to discuss negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.

As confirmed by European Commission spokeswoman Paula Pinho, on Monday evening the Ukrainian president will meet in Brussels with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Antonio Costa. The talks will cover, among others: ongoing discussions on peace in Ukraine, as well as the use of the so-called reparation loan for Ukraine, financed from frozen Russian assets. (PAP)
