“Anca Alexandrescu has around 20%, a real danger (of) an extremist vote that we cannot ignore”, drew attention to Vlad Gheorghe, in a message published on Sunday evening, after the partial elections for the capital's mayor's office.

At the beginning of last week, the independent candidate Vlad Gheorghe announced his withdrawal from the race and his support for the PNL candidate, Ciprian Ciucu.

“Congratulations to Ciprian Ciucu, it's a well-deserved victory by more than 6-7 percent over the most optimistic polls! The people of Bucharest understood the danger and voted calculatedly, collective intelligence made the difference,” wrote Vlad Gheorghe, after Sunday's vote.

“But there is also a signal of great concern, (…) Anca Alexandrescu has around 20%, a real danger (of) extremist vote that we cannot ignore and the reason why we took this step next to Ciprian Ciucu and Ilie Bolojan”, he continued, in a message published on Facebook.

“Anca Alexandrescu, with a score almost double that of the USR candidate, in Bucharest, shows that there is a need for a change in the reformist political current's approach to people. And this is the discussion we must have seriously from tomorrow onwards”, concluded Vlad Gheorghe.

Former MEP Vlad Gheorghe, considered a candidate close to President Nicusor Dan, announced on Tuesday morning, December 2, that he is withdrawing from the race for the Capital City Hall in favor of Ciprian Ciucu. He appealed to USR candidate Cătălin Drula to also support Ciucu, if he does not want Bucharest to have “an extremist mayor”.

A day later, Eugen Teodorovici, another independent candidate in the race for the general mayor seat of the Capital, announced on Wednesday that he is withdrawing from the electoral competition and that he will support Daniel Băluță, the PSD candidate.

The influencer Alexandru Zidaru (known as Makaveli) also withdrew on November 21 in favor of Anca Alexandrescu, but his withdrawal took place before the finalization of the candidacies, so his name did not appear on the ballot.

After counting 1,288 minutes from the total number of 1,289 (ie 99.92%), Ciprian Ciucu obtained 211,471 votes, ie 36.17% of the votes cast from Sunday's elections.

The candidate ranked second, Anca Alexandrescu, supported by AUR, obtained 21.94%. The difference between the two is 83,178 votes, when the result from the last polling station in the Capital remained to be centralized.

Daniel Băluţă ranked third, with 20.5%, and USR candidate Cătălin Drula, fourth, with 13.9%.

Ciprian Ciucu won the vote in five of the six sectors of the Capital.

Voter turnout at Sunday's election was 32.71%. 589,918 votes were registered.
