A Krasnoyarsk woman, at the behest of scammers, sold two of her cars and gave them the money (video)

A 30-year-old resident of the Sverdlovsk district of Krasnoyarsk fell for the trick of scammers and lost more than 4.5 million rubles.

It was established that the victim received a call allegedly from the tax service and was informed that an audit carried out against her had revealed a discrepancy in the declaration. To resolve the issue, the woman was asked to come to the tax office and made an appointment via electronic queue, and to confirm it, she was asked to provide the code that was sent in the message. When she named the numbers, she received a notification about the hacking of her personal account on State Services, indicating the telephone number of the “hotline”. Having contacted the “specialist”, the Krasnoyarsk woman learned about unauthorized access of third parties to her personal data.

“She was also informed that the attackers had gained access to all her bank accounts and property. Next, fake law enforcement officers contacted the victim and convinced her that the scammers could sell her Mazda and BMW cars in her name and use the money for the needs of a criminal organization. To avoid this, the Krasnoyarsk woman needed to sell her cars as soon as possible and put the proceeds in a special safe account. She followed the strangers’ instructions – she went to a car dealership, where she sold two of her foreign cars, and transferred the 4.5 million rubles she received using the specified details,” said the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The deception took several days – 3-4. Currently, a criminal case has been initiated regarding this fact under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud committed by an organized group or on an especially large scale.”
