The driver of a car “deliberately” hit a group of people on Friday night in the center of Jewish, following an altercation in a bar, causing a person's death and injuring another five, two of which are in critical condition, the French Prosecutor's Office, according to AFP informed.
In a bar in the city center, around 04:00, “there would have been an altercation (…) between several people, especially between a young woman and more men,” said the Republican prosecutor of Jew, Rémi Coutin.
The bar guards then decided to take out all the people who were in the premises, ie about one hundred people, according to the same source.
“At that time, probably as a result of the altercation that took place inside the nightclub, a person would have taken a vehicle (…) and would have deliberately back at high speed in the crowd in front of the premises,” added the magistrate.
“Unfortunately, the balance is very serious”
“Unfortunately, the balance sheet is very serious, because a person died on the spot and five were injured, two of which are in critical condition at this time,” Coutin said. The five people were admitted to the Jewish University Hospital.
The deceased person is a man, the prosecutor said.
“At least two people who were in the vehicle and a third one who was outside it,” two men and a woman were placed in preventive arrest at the Jewish Commissariat, Coutin said.
An investigation was opened for murder and attempted murder, according to the magistrate, which excludes any “terrorist, racist or other reason”.
“A priori, we start from the idea of an altercation between the customers of this bar, which, accordingly, has completely degenerated and leads to a terrible tragedy,” he said.
