Israeli security forces on Thursday shot dead two apparently unarmed Palestinians who had surrendered during a raid in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, reports Reuters, taken over by Agerpres.
Palestinian television broadcast images of the incident; the two can be seen exiting a building surrounded by Israeli soldiers, lifting their shirts, then lying on the ground, looking like they want to surrender. The Israelis apparently order them back into the building, then open fire at close range, killing them.
A Reuters journalist who was nearby witnessed the exit from the building, the apparent surrender, then heard the gunfire and later saw the Israeli soldiers standing next to a body that seemed lifeless.
The Palestinian Ministry of Defense identified the two men killed as Montassir Abdullah, 26, and Yussuf Asasa, 37.

The Israeli army and police issued a joint statement announcing the opening of an investigation into the incident, without explaining in any way the opening fire and without specifying that the Palestinians had laid on the ground before being sent back into the building and shot.
The military operation in Jenin is explained as targeting a terrorist network. The building's encirclement was followed by “a surrender procedure” that lasted several hours, the quoted statement also states. “After they came out, shots were fired at the suspects”, the incident being “under review by the commanders on the ground”, after which it will be “transferred to the competent professional bodies”.
The Israeli Minister for National Security, the right-wing extremist Itamar Ben-Gvir, later issued another statement, expressing his “full support” for the army and police unit involved. “The fighters acted exactly as expected of them – terrorists must die!” he wrote on the X platform.
The governor of the city of Jenin, Kamal Abu al-Rub, told Reuters by phone that it was “a cold-blooded execution.”
