November. The garden is empty, the peonies have long lost their leaves, and it seems that they can be forgotten until the next season. But right now, in this November silence, the foundation of future splendor is being laid. While the ground is not yet covered by frost, I go out into the garden with a package bone meal – the same “bone force” that will turn your peonies into flowering giants.
Unlike fast-release fertilizers, bone meal releases nutrients slowly, over several months. Phosphorus and calciumits main components, strengthen the root system and stimulate the formation of flower buds. A peony that receives such feeding in the fall wakes up strong and full of energy in the spring.
How to use correctly:
- For an adult bush – 150-200 g (about a handful);
- Under young – 70-100 g;
- Scatter evenly over the surface of the earth within a radius of 30-40 cm from the center of the bush;
- Easy to work into the soil with a rake;
- Sprinkle with a thin layer of compost or soil.
Three important points:
- Do not bury deep – peonies have a shallow root system;
- Do not use with lime – it reduces effectiveness;
- The best time is when the temperature is stable around zero.
This time-tested method does not require much cost or effort, but produces amazing results. Just one handful of “bone power” in November – and next summer your garden will be decorated with peonies that will take your breath away!
