Ficus is a favorite in many homes, but over time it often loses its lower leaves, the trunk becomes “bald”, and new shoots appear rarely and pale. The reason is not that it died, but a lack of potassium and microelements, especially in winter, when there is little light.
But you don't need to buy expensive fertilizers. There is a simple and natural way to support ficus – banana peel feeding. It is rich in potassium, magnesium and zinc – precisely those elements that help maintain foliage and stimulate the growth of new, dense, glossy leaves.
How to prepare the solution:
- Take the peel of 2 ripe bananas without black spots, wash well and chop finely.
- Pour 1 liter of warm water, cover with a lid and leave for 48 hours in a warm place.
- Strain and dilute 1 part of the infusion in 4 parts of water.
- Water 200 ml per medium pot at the root.
- Repeat once every 2-3 weeks from October to March and once a month in spring and summer.
This feeding gently strengthens the roots, improves the absorption of nutrients and helps the ficus maintain foliage even in the dimmest corner of the apartment. Within a month you will notice: young shoots appear on the trunk, and old leaves become dark green and shiny.
Question and answer:
Is it possible to feed a ficus with banana peels?
Yes, banana peels are an excellent source of potassium, which strengthens foliage and stimulates growth.
Do I need to dry the peel before steeping?
No, fresh peels provide more nutrients.
Is the method suitable for other plants?
Yes, especially for monstera, dracaena, ficus and palm trees.
