Serious energy problems in Severomorsk. There was a blackout

In the closed city, where the command of the Northern Fleet, which has the largest fleet of ballistic missile submarines in Russia, is stationed, a blackout occurred after the collapse of five power pylons. On Friday, the governor of the Murmansk region, Andrei Chiabis, announced the establishment of a crisis headquarters and the introduction of a state of heightened alert. Until Sunday, some buildings in Severomorsk were still without electricity and heating.

Official explanations point to extreme weather conditions, including heavy snowfall, strong winds and icing. However, as Reuters reports, citing Russian media, the cause of the disaster could also have been outdated infrastructure.
Two of the five collapsed structures date back to 1966, the rest from the 1980s, while the regulations stipulate a maximum of 40 years of operation. The Investigative Committee initiated proceedings regarding the lack of modernization of power lines.
Authorities have not given a timeline for full restoration of power. Maintaining the operation of key facilities and gradually restoring power to housing estates remains a priority.
