The maximum amount of maternity pay in Russia has approached one million rubles

The maximum amount of maternity benefits in Russia in 2026 exceeded 955 thousand rubles. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to Galina Izotova, Deputy Chairman of the Accounts Chamber.

She recalled that the amount of maternity pay depends on the woman’s official income before going on maternity leave.

“The greater the mother’s official income before maternity leave, the greater the payments will be. The most important of them is maternity benefits. It is completely tied to earnings. In 2026, the ceiling is set at over 955 thousand rubles, that is, almost a million, which a woman can receive immediately when going on maternity leave,” said Galina Izotova, deputy chairman of the Accounts Chamber.

In addition, a lump sum benefit is paid upon the birth of a child. From February 2026, its amount is 28.45 thousand rubles for each child. This payment does not depend on family income. Parents also receive monthly support until the child reaches the age of one and a half years. For a working parent, the maximum payment from February 2026 is a little more than 83 thousand rubles per month. For a non-working parent, the amount is 10.7 thousand rubles.

Galina Izotova also recalled that from September 2025, maternity benefits for full-time students began to be calculated not on the size of the scholarship, but on the subsistence level of the working population in the region. The Social Fund has already paid such benefits to almost 5 thousand female students.

“This is an important step: a young mother should not drop out of school due to financial difficulties. Time will tell how much this will affect the birth rate, but the support itself is timely,” Galina Izotova emphasized.

Regions can also establish additional payments. Their size and conditions are determined by regional legislation.
