With the arrival of autumn, every winegrower faces the question: how to preserve the vine until spring without loss? Traditional sheltering methods often lead to damping off and mold due to lack of air. The solution turned out to be surprisingly simple and effective – just two ordinary wooden sticks laid in a special way.
Wooden sticks create a constant air gap between the ground and the covering material. This prevents condensation from accumulating, ensures air circulation and maintains a stable temperature. Even during thaws, under such shelter a greenhouse effect does not form, which is detrimental to the grapevine.
Laying technology:
- Choose 2 straight wooden sticks 50-70 cm long.
- Lay them parallel at a distance of 30-40 cm from each other.
- Carefully place the vine on the sticks without pressing it to the ground.
- Cover with agrofibre or burlap.
- Secure the edges of the covering material with stones or boards.
This method is suitable for all regions of Russia where grapes require shelter for the winter. It is especially effective in unstable winter weather with frequent temperature changes. In the spring you will find the vine completely healthy, without traces of mold or rot, ready for the new growing season.
