To grow radishes, you will need a container 20 cm deep with drainage holes. Place pebbles or expanded clay at the bottom of the container, then fill the container with peat, sand or soil.
Before sowing, the seeds should be soaked in water for 20 minutes.
“The holes are made shallow – up to 1 cm. The seeds are laid out at a distance of about 4 cm from each other, sprinkled with earth, lightly compacted and sprayed with settled water. The container is covered with glass or film and placed in a warm place with a temperature of +18…+22 °C,” the publication notes.
The first shoots appear after 3–4 days. After this, the film must be removed and the containers moved to a well-lit place. For normal growth, radishes need 12 hours of daylight, so in winter you will need a phytolamp.
“The optimal temperature at this stage is +15…+18 °C. If the air warms up above +22 °C, the plant can go into overdrive,” the article emphasized.
It is also important to ensure that the soil does not dry out, otherwise the root vegetables will be bitter.
10 days after the emergence of shoots, the radishes need to be fed with liquid mineral fertilizer, and a week later the fertilizer should be applied again.
“Already 30–40 days after sowing, you can harvest the first harvest and prepare a salad from fresh, crispy radishes,” the publication assured.
