Raul Rusescu, three-time champion of Romania, expressed his point of view today, at GSP Live, regarding the scandal of the moment in the Superliga: the investigation launched against the Metaloglobus club for betting. Rusescu made an extremely harsh comment.
The case, in short:
- A few of his players Metaloglobus allegedly made accounts on betting sites through a staff member and would have bet including against their team. The Integrity Department of the FRF has already started an investigation regarding the Metaloglobus matches;
- A former staff member he made astonishing testimoniesclaiming that he had come to the team precisely to gather information to improve his chances of winning at bets!
VIDEO. Raul Rusescu harshly intervenes in the Metaloglobus betting scandal: “I was kicking him in the head with my boots!”
“Employing a masseuse who wanted to gamble… You don't really have any control over that. You're a club, an employer, you fire him when you find out about this stuff. But when it comes to active players doing these things, there's not much to say. The authorities need to step in and put an end to all this stuff.
In prison, sorry! I don't want to think about what's going on in the Metaloglobus locker room right now… What would it be like to go to the locker room tomorrow and know that a colleague has bet that he will get a yellow card and that the team gets two goals in one half?! I kick his boots in the head! At his word, we were throwing ice at him. There is no such thing!”, declared Raul Rusescu, at GSP Live.
“Metaloglobus is a team that has up-to-date salaries. They are small, but they are up-to-date. I work for that money. How can I show up in the dressing room with you when you bet that you will get a yellow card in the first half and you actually get it?! I will kick your head, as I say! The management of the club should take certain measures and we will also find out who are the people who did this”, continued the former striker of the national team.
Asked if he knew similar cases when he was an active footballerRaul Rusescu replied as follows: “I didn't stop to think about it, I wasn't interested. When I was active, we were told very clearly that we weren't allowed to bet on football. Because that means prison!”.
LPF announces what is being watched in the Metaloglobus betting scandal
Also at GSP Live, Justin Ștefan, general secretary of the Professional Football League, explained what is being watched in the betting scandalsome of the first-division Metaloglobus players being investigated under the accusation of having bet on their own team's matches, which is prohibited by the regulations.
“Let's say there is someone in the football world who is betting. That should stop at the level of disciplinary action (no – punished by fine and suspension).
Another would be the situation where there would be a larger organization, such as where I lose a match specifically because I gambled, or score, or concede a number of goals because I gambled. There one could discuss a broader matter that falls within the scope of criminal law.
But those from Metaloglobus also benefit from the presumption of innocence, until the moment when there will be a confirmation and a definitive decision from those called to pronounce.
Guilt must be proven and to the extent that it will be, the regulatory sanctions will be applied. I am also referring to the club, because they are two distinct situations. It has to be seen if there was an organized matter there or something accidental, if more extensive things were planned or if it was just a person who gambled”, General Secretary Justin Ștefan said on GSP Live.
